- Description
- Perennial tuberous plant irregular, gnarled; fine roots; one or more stems per tuber, short, about 3 cm long; short internodes, 1-3 mm long. Many leaves with sub-cylindrical petiole, 1 cm X 1 mm; blade filiform, 110 x 2 mm, with a width equal to the whole length, glabrous, with an almost cylindrical section, bright green above, green paler below; approx. 6 teeth on each edge of the blade, fleshy point; depressed midrib on the upper side, secondary veins corresponding to the teeth. Papyraceous, triangular, 4 X 2 mm, rosa, marcescentes. Axillary inflorescence, pauciflorous, usually bisexual; bare peduncle, 2.5-7 cm long, with 1-3 flowers at the top; triangular, deciduous bracts. MALE flowers very short pedicel; 4 obovate tepals, pale pink, external 10 X 5 mm, internals 9 X 4 mm. Stamens 12 approx., With threads welded at the base on 0,5 mm, then free on 0,5-1 mm; oblong antheres 1 mm long. FEMALE flowers with pedicel 5 mm; 6 oval tepals, pale pink, the external 9 x 5 mm, the internal 8 x 3-4 mm. Ovary oblong; styles 3, welded at their base, free on 1 mm; stigmata thick reniform. Green capsule, oblong, 9 x 4 mm; large rounded wing, 4 mm wide, the other two wings scarcely marked. - Pl. 12, p. 43.
