- No. 258- Begonia (Rex cv. x Rex cv.) 'Hippie' - B. 'Hippie' has unusual, twisted leaves, heavily covered with red hairs, being hardy out of doors in California, holding its leaves the year round. It is a large rex, with round, fluted, double spiraled leaves, 7" x 9", heavy textured, almost black, the abundance of red hairs giving a red cast; petioles are green with sparse, light-pink hairs. The plant was developed in 1965 and first distributed in 1969 by the originator, Sylvia B. Leatherman, Leatherman's Gardens, 2637 N. Lee Ave., So. El Monte, Calif. 91733. Registered June 14, 1969.
