Plant
- Description
- The Begonian June 1952 p. 123 Begonia Freddie - A Ziesenhenne introduction of about five years ago, this makes a magnificent specimen begonia. As previously described by Marie Minter in 1949, it is a cross between the giant-leaved B. Barkeri and the venerable favorite, B. manicata aureo maculata, the manicata with the variegated leaves. This latter character is latent in B. 'Freddie' and some lucky person who raises self-pollinated seedlings may obtain a variegated 'Freddie: The lovely plant pictured is at the end, of its flowering season but at its height will have six or eight flower spikes two or three feet above the foliage holding showers of small pink blooms. This, together with the giant bronzy green, red-backed foliage, contribute to a colorful plant. - Editor.;
