- Description
- Wiener illustrirte Garten-Zeitung, jahr. 18, 1893 B. Madame Charrat: Today, the flowering Begonias are in high esteem, and not only the bulbous, but also the shrubby, which are not rarely covered all year with Bluthen. Undoubtedly among these thankful-flowering species is the splendid Begonia corallina, whose vividly coral-red flowers and large colored ovaries of the same color appear in large, loose umbels, and decorate the plant almost obnoxiously throughout the year. Strikingly, this beautiful plant is not recognized by the flowerists in the way that befits them. Perhaps the new hybrid she brings up will find more value. This shows a lot of similarity to the parent plant, only it branches easily, which in B. corallina can only be achieved through pinching and blooms almost without ceasing even in winter. The flowers of the Beg. Corallina Madame Charrat are also larger and their color is a magnificent coral pink. The same color is also possessed by the ovaries, which are kept for a long time until they fall off. Without a doubt, this Begonia will soon find its way into the garden as a prosperous market plant; Revue Horticole, Anne 1913 In the Bulletin of the year 1894, page 759, you will find the report of M. Sallier for the floral section, in which the reporter reports a reward granted to MM. E. Forgeot and Co. for two Begonias present: one, ‘Madame Charrat’, a dwarf form of B. corallina; the other, Begonia boliviensis sulphurea, has pale yellow flowers, a curiosity.;
