Description
Plant small, acaule, glabrous, developing from a subglobular, pisiform tubercle. Leaves 5-8 to petiole thick, 7-20 mm, longer than limbus; blade 2-7-palmatinerve, very thin, suborbicular to oval, 15-18 X 8-12 mm, equilateral, margins dente: teeth 2-3 mm wide and 1 mm high, mucronules at the apex; upper surface of the blade bearing a few spicules, present especially near the teeth, lower glabrous face; nervurev bifurcated towards the edges. Stipules in scales, small, lanceolate, acute. Basal inflorescences, 1-3, 3-6 cm long peduncle, naked, thick, with 1-2 flowers at the top MALE and FEMALE at the armpit of 2 triangular-acute bracts, 2 mm long. MALE flowers with pedicel 4-8 mm long; 4 tepals oblong, unequal, external 4 X 1.5 mm, the internal smaller. Stamens, 3-4 threaded shanks in a 1 mm column; antheres 3-4, subsessile at the top of the column, oblong, 2 mm long. FEMALE flowers with pedicel 8 mm, accres cent; 5 oblong tepals, 2 x 1-1.5 mm, subequal. Subglobular ovary, little marked wings; styles 3, free, bifid; stigma crescent narrow, twisted at the end. Capsule small, slightly leaning, sub-round, 4 mm in diameter, a little compressed; 2 small wings 0.8-1 mm wide, the third reduced to a rating. Subsidiary small seeds, 0.3 mm in diameter, echinules. - Pl. 4 p. 23.
