Chicago 1937. v. 18: pt. 2 (1937): Page 737-48 http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/19747 Plants usually erect and often much branched, 2 meters high or less, glabrous throughout or nearly so; leaves short-petiolate, oblong ovate, acuminate, very unequally cordate at the base, finely denticulate, penninerved, with about 12 nerves on each side; flowers white or pink, in small or large cymes; staminate sepals 4 mm. wide; capsule 6-7 mm. long, one of the angles protracted into a broad, rounded wing almost 1 cm. wide, the other 2 angles narrowly winged. A rather showy and characteristic plant in forests of the temperate region and less frequent at lower elevations
