Description
Tiny plant, acaule, glabrous tubercle pisiform 3-5 mm in diameter. Leaves 1 or 2 to petiole thick, 1-4 cm long, inserted 4 mm above the lower edge of the foliage; very thin lamina, 5-7-palmatinerve at insertion of petiole, suborbicular-oval acute, 2-4 X 1, 7-3 cm truncate at base or distinctly pelte or subcorde; incise-dente edges; teeth as wide as deep, acute; veins bifurcated towards the edges, all finely marked on the lower side. Stipules small, lanceolate, acute. Basal (sometimes 2 per tuberous) inflorescence, pauciflora, irregularly branched cyme, 5-10 cm long peduncle; pedicel thick, 2-3 mm long. MALE flowers have 2 pink, suborbicular tepals 3-4 mm in diameter. Stamens 4-5, with threads welded at the base in a column 0.6 mm long at the top; oblong antheres, 1.8 mm long obtuse at the top. FEMALE flowers with pedicel 5 mm long, accrescent; 4 pink tepals, oblong, 2-2.5 mm long, subequal. Ovary oblong, triaile; styles 3, free, bifid at the top; stigma crescent narrow, twisted at the ends. Capsule small, 6 X 6-10 mm with the wings, leaning, a little compressed, the largest wing of 4 mm wide, the other two of 1 mm; wings with transverse reticulum of very fine nerves. - Pl. 9, p. 35.
